“Wapenshaw was annoying, but essential.”- Hazel

Wapenshaw

Leslie Paul, claimed that the origin of this word was Saxon- meaning weapon show. A strange name for something associated with a peace movement! Nevertheless, whatever the origins of the name, it was a term used for ordering one’s kit whilst at camp.

Sketch of Camper doing Wapenshaw from the 1930sToday it is used rarely, but was an essential piece of camp craft during the 1930’s.
