My Experience of the project - Kitty
What was the camp like for you?
Unfortunately I couldn’t come on the camp, but I had been involved in the project and was disappointed when I found out I couldn’t go. I helped with picking a site for the camp and finding ways of getting there that didn’t involve modern transport. The project for me has been fun and educational but missing the main activity (the actual camp) has meant that I don’t feel as involved and haven’t had a true 1930’s experience of woodcraft. It would have been nice to escape the modern lifestyle!
What was the food like?
I’ve seen the menu they had on the 1930’s camp and to my surprise it doesn’t seem that different to the normal camp food we have. There were less of the everyday things like peanut butter and not as many brands.
What we didn’t have?
I was surprised to hear that they had chemical loos on the camp, which they certainly didn’t have in the 1930’s. They weren’t allowed to dig trenches due to the campsite rules which made it less authentic.
There isn’t one bit of the project that I liked best, but the project overall was an interesting experience. I liked comparing what it was like then and how different things are now. Hearing peoples personal experiences of camp in the 1930’s made me realize how woodcraft has evolved. |
