My Experience of the project - Alice
Before the camp
Mayhem and organisation, two of the many things we had during the years running up to finale of the project.
Firstly we got briefed about the project and we did some work about 1930s camps, researching it on the internet and in books, even doing a few quizzes. Then we got sorted into groups such as food, activities and travel so we could research our topic.
One weekend we all met up at Woodingdean youth centre and made our tents. They were a lot of work to make and very exhausting but once they were finished it was great to see them erect.
Another group night some fellow Woodcrafters who were children in the 1930s came and we asked them about their camps. At first we were stuck for questions and were all too embarrassed to ask any, but as we became more confident around them we wouldn’t let them leave! Of course the subject of sex and drugs came up and there were a lot of questions involving them, many resulting in long discussions.
When I found out I couldn’t come on the camp I was very disappointed but just the experience of helping organising it was enjoyable enough.
